Title: Rockstar
Cast:
Ranbir Kapoor
Nargis Fakhri
Directed By:
Imtiaz Ali
Running Time: 2hrs 40min.
Genre: Drama | Romance | Music

I have to confess here something, i usually don't watch Indian Bollywood movies .... Mmm that is because i didn't grow up with people watching Bollywood movies at my home. So naturally i didn't grow any taste for them. This movie, Rockstar, was highly recommended to me by a dear friend a few months back ... hmmm it was November last year i think ... anyway, this weekend i got the opportunity to watch this movie. For those of you who want to know what the story of the movie is, here is a brief description.....
The story really starts off with a young naive Janardhan Jakhar (Ranbir Kapoor) who aspires to become a musician. He soon learns from his friend that to become a musician/ Rockstar he has to feel the pain of heartbreak. His yearning for heartbreak gets him close to Heer (Nargis Fakhri), as they bond over movie called Jangli Jawani ( such a catchy phrase) and other stupid funny stuff. Soon Heer is married off and gets settled in Prauge, the boy is thrown out of his house, he seeks guidance in the dargah oh Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya and next you know he's a singing sensation Known as Jordan (the name give to him by the girl).
A foreign tour reunites him with Heer and their love for each other deepens ( it feels so awkward writing such stuff) until Jordan is obsessed with her. What follows next in the movie is seperation, heartbreak, tragedy, reunion of the two love birds aaaaaaand the culmination of the story, which BTW left a few questions in my mind  :P.

Now what i really liked about this move was first of all the acting and it was superb especially Ranbir as a Rockstar. Nargis too was not far off, her expressions were to die for :D. The way the movie was stitched together is a lot different then what i expect of the conventional Bollywood flicks. The music was five star especially the way it was presented with the story. It was not like a song starting suddenly out of nowhere just because it is Bollywood .... No! it was not like that, the songs and the music totally gelled with the story, the acting and this is something that makes this movie a memorable one.

The End Note ... you will love the music, the acting, the actors and the story too......

Best Line in the movie:   " When Jordan calls Heer Basanti while making a list of things to do in Prauge."

Girls: you will love Jordan and probably say goodbye to that khusra Edward of Twilight..... some say that men like Jordan dont exist .... i say "out of billions out there! not even one .... r u crazy :P .....
Sentimental Guys:.. Agghhh .... yes you too ...
High on Testosterone Guys: Sadah Haq Ithay Rakh is for you.
Lonely Guys/Girls: Yeah go ahead become a Rockstar

Note of Caution: This movie is for 15+ only (Sorry kids :P)

M.A.D Rating : 8.0

Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)

Title: Crazy, Stupid, Love
Cast:
Julianne Moore, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone
Directed By:
Glenn Ficarra, John Requa
Running Time: 2hrs.
Genre: Drama | Romance | Comedy

I must admit i downloaded this movie only because of Ryan Gosling as recently i have been trying to watch his every movie. Having said that, this movie has a very impressive cast consisting of established and new talent; veterans Julianne Moore and Steve Carell star with (relative) Hollywood newcomers Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Now the problem with romantic comedies is that they are a dime a dozen, everyone seems to be making one so the quality is on the downside, for every one hit there are ten average films but this one is different.

The plot of this movie is that Cal (Carell) after discovering that his wife, Emily (Moore), is having an affair with work colleague David Lindhagen (Kevin Bacon) whose name everyone in the movie wrongly pronounce as Lindhagin :). Cal seems to lose his sense and focus until he meets smooth-talking, Casanova, Jacob (Gosling), who takes Cal as a challenge and promises to make him a success with the opposite sex. Meanwhile, the movie has a subplot with Hannah (Stone), who thinks that she is with the right man, Richard (Josh Groban), and expects him to propose to her but everything turns out wrong and now she has a broken heart too ..... ufffff :P. As Cal is being turned in to a lady-killer, his teen son, Robbie (Jonah Bobo), is in love with his slightly older babysitter, Jessica (Analeigh Tipton). Now the threads of all these sub stories move forward as the movie progresses and right at the end all these threads get tangled into each other revealing the missing hidden points in the movie.

As for the acting i think apart from the character of David Lindhagen (Kevin Bacon), the acting was good. The story was interesting with little twists that kept you guessing and the humor part was really refined we did not see any cheap attempt to make people laugh.

This film is a mixture of feel-good and emotional despair. The movie has an amusing twist towards the conclusion and it has a happy ending too. In avoiding constant clichés, it comes across as fresh piece which, the audience can enjoy. Crazy, Stupid, Love is witty, funny and sharply written as it avoids feelings overly familiar and clichéd. Each story thread is well paced; the roles are cast well, with charming turns from Gosling and Carell, as well as great support. It ticks all the boxes.

The End Note ... a good movie, a very different than the normal romantic comedy movies .... one of the best of 2011 in its Genre......

Best Line in the movie:   " Emily: When I told you when I had to work late? I really went to go see the new Twilight movie by myself, and it was so bad." ....... hahahahaha

Girls: you will love it
Sentimental Guys:.. Agghhh .... yes you too ...
High on Testosterone Guys: Boys! one of these days will definitely be your day.
Lonely Guys/Girls: Yeah go ahead
Kids: ...unless you are 13 and are in love with a 17yr old.......

Note of Caution: This movie is for 15+ only (Sorry kids :P)
